Mr. & Mrs. Dave Fruehauf
Dave Fruehauf was an Air Force SR-71 Pilot we had the pleasure of meeting in Lynchburg, TN. One of the kindest couple we met during the Annual Jack Daniels International BBQ Festival. An American Hero that you should meet!!
The SR-71 served with the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1998. A total of 32 aircraft were built; 12 were lost in accidents and none lost to enemy action.
Blackbirds were used during aerial reconnaissance missions and specially equipped to evade surface-to-air missile detection thanks to their minimal radar footprint.
Blackbirds have held the world record for the highest-flying and fastest-flying manned aircraft since 1972,& designed to fly faster than Mach 3 (2,301.81 mph) at altitudes over 85,000 feet in order to escape detection from radar and air defense systems during the Cold War. It was also one of the first attempts at military stealth design, according to Lockheed.
